Postdoctoral position in Synthetic Organic Chemistry: Synthesis of Ferrocenyl-Podophyllo Analogs and their Evaluation as Anti-Tumor Agents

The project will be in collaboration between the team Synthèses Sélectives et Organométalliques (SSO) directed by Prof. G. Poli (Institut Parisien de Chimie Moléculaire, UMR 7201) and the team  Chimie Organométallique Médicinale directed by  Prof. G.  Jaouen at the Ecole Nationale  Supérieure de Chimie de Paris (Laboratoire Charles Friedel, UMR 7223). The Goal is to synthesize a series of ferrocene-containing lignans, such  as  podophyllotoxins.
Among the several existing derivatives of podophyllotoxin, etoposide and teniposide are the only cyclolignans used in cancer chemotherapy so far.  However, these efficient cytotoxic agents  induce severe toxic effects and the discovery of more potent and/or less toxic analogs of this  family would be highly desirable. Accordingly, we aim to develop the synthesis of new ferrocenecontaining cyclolignans and study the pharmacological properties of these original  bioorganometallic targets. This project fully relies on the synergic convergence of the two research groups, that possess complementary skills. From one side, one of the pioneer of bioorganometallic chemistry, having a  longstanding experience in ferrocenyl conjugates and biological tests, from the other side a group  well experienced in multistep organic synthesis, organometallic catalytic synthesis and the  chemistry of lignans.
The successful candidate will be based in the Pr. Poli's team, under the supervision of Dr. J. Oble,  at Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris 6, 4 Place Jussieu, 75252 Paris cedex 5. Candidate profil: Experience in multistep synthetic organic chemistry is essential, and applicants must have a PhD  in Synthetic Organic Chemistry.
