Two Postdoctoral Research positions in developing sustainable bioenergy

In two projects, funded under the European FP7 programme, EUROCHAR and ENERGYPOPLAR, you will undertake highly novel research to develop sustainable Biofuels. The aim of EUROCHAR is to investigate the carbon mitigation capacity of biochar applied to soil.
Post 1 Understanding the potential of biochar in bioenergy systems for carbon mitigation and soil sustainability: molecular through to field.

Post 2 Poplar Genomics and Genetics for bioenergy. Second generation re-sequencing and genotyping for biofuels traits.

PhD position in computational and experimental chemistry

Ideally, the candidate will have some prior experience of electrochemistry, however this is not essential and training will be provided as needed.

Applicants for PhD positions in the School of Chemistry are expected to have at least the equivalent of a UK 2:1 honours degree in chemistry or a related subject

Developing Novel Heterogeneous Catalysts for Sustainable & Renewable Chemistry: School of Chemistry

The successful applicant will join a well-established Research Group in both institutions working in the areas of heterogeneous catalysis with a keen focus on Sustainable Energy production.

Applicants should have, or expect to receive shortly, a good (preferably first or 2:1) degree in Chemistry or a relevant discipline with a keen interest in materials chemistry and catalysis.

This collaborative research project between the University of Southampton and University of La Sabana is aimed at designing novel nanocluster catalysts for the generation of second and third generation hybrid biofuels from renewable sources. In particular, developing innovative catalyst design strategies for producing hybrid biofuels from renewable sources presents promising opportunities for addressing energy challenges in a sustainable fashion.
