Postdoctoral Position in biophysics

Highlights:
  1. A postdoctoral fellowship is available to study ion channel structure and function.
  2. We investigate voltage-gated potassium channels, voltage-gated sodium channels, and background potassium channels. We focus on determinants of basic operation, including regulation by accessory subunits, and pathophysiological mechanisms of disease in the heart and nervous system.
  3. The techniques we use include whole-cell, patch and COVG electrophysiology, Forster and Lanthanide resonance energy transfer, voltage-clamp spectroscopy, confocal and single-molecule fluorescence microscopy, protein purification, crystallography, phage display, and molecular biology. We work most often with Xenopus oocytes, mammalian tissue culture cells, and primary neurons in culture.
  4. Priority will be given to applicants with a recent Ph.D. in biophysics, physiology, or a related field, and electrophysiology experience. An ability to think quantitatively and to communicate clearly is required. To apply please submit a statement of research interests, CV and the names/email addresses of 3 references to: Professor of Pediatrics, Computational Neuroscience, Molecular Medicine, Neurobiology, and Physiology; sangoldstein@uchicago.edu
