PhD position in informatics at Norway

Highlights:

3. The research fellow must take part in the University's approved PhD programme leading to the degree within a time limit of 3 years. Application for admission to the PhD programme, including a project plan outline for the training module, will be worked out in collaboration with the research group in question.

4. It is a prerequisite, however, that the formal admission requirements for the PhD programme are met before appointment can be made.

5. In total, the fellowship period is 4 years. For positions with a 4-year duration 25 pct of the period will be designated to teaching and/or administrative duties. The fellowship period may be reduced if the successful applicant has held previous employment as research fellow.

6. Knowledge of Norwegian language will be an advantage.


Postdoctoral Positions in Meterial Science

Highlights:
1. Postdoctoral positions are avaliable at the Department of Materials Science, University of Patras that with possibility of extension .

2. The successful applicant(s) will work under the supervision of Prof. D.J. Photinos, Prof. A.G. Vanakaras on molecular theory and computer simulations for the design of dendrimer - nanoparticle liquid crystals (LCs) and for studying their self organization, alignment and optical properties.

3. The position is to start in December 2009 and involves research work in the collaborative project NANOGOLD, undertaken by 7 leading scientific groups in Europe and supported by the European Community within the 7th Framework Programme.

Also, the applicant(s) will work on computer simulations based on multiple-scattering theory for the study of electromagnetic/optical response of metamaterials consisting of nanoparticle, in collaboration with Prof. V. Yannopapas. Prior expertise with the EM layer-multiple scattering method is considered as an extra qualification.

PhD position in Germany 2010

Highlights:

1. Software-based modeling and optimization of energetic and material parameters that are relevant to the carbonization process of organic residues from the biomethane production to biochar Systematic planning and organizing of carbonization experiments using pyrolysis and hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) techniques Physical and chemical characterization of the solid, liquid and gas phase of the carbonization process

2. Our APECS-team has 16 members including three postdocs and four PHD positions.

3. The goal is to develop a hybrid process for combined fermentative production of biomethane and thermochemical production of biochar.

4. Biomethane is a versatile energy source, whereas biochar is designated to be used as a carbon-storing high-value soil additive.

5. For our new team of young researchers APECS - “Anaerobic pathways to renewable energies and carbon sinks” funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (Germany) we seek to appoint two PhD Students (m/f).
