Funding for Women Scientists India

Highlights:
1. Women constitute an important section of the workforce. However, the present situation of a large number of well-qualified women scientists who due to various circumstances have been left out of the S&T activities needs to be addressed. The problems faced are several but, significantly, most often the "break in their careers" arises out of motherhood and family responsibilities. The option for revival of their profession is presently unavailable due to restrictions in age and qualification and no system at present addresses these issues.
2. The "Women Scientists Scheme (WOS)" has been evolved in this context, by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for providing opportunities to women scientists and technologists between the age group of 30-50 years who desire to return to mainstream science and work as bench-level scientists. Through this endeavour of the Department, a concerted effort would be made to give women a strong foothold into the scientific profession, help them re-enter into the mainstream and provide a launch pad for further forays into the field of science and technology, both from the point of view of pure science and its application to societal development.

PhD in Basic and Applied Molecular Life Sciences

Highlights:
1. The Faculty of Sciences of the University of Geneva together with the Merck Serono Geneva Research Centre (SPRI) offers an outstanding research environment for studies in the Biomedical and Life Sciences.
2. The departments of Animal Biology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Plant Biology and the SPRI have united their efforts to provide an extensive educational background and possibilities in research that are necessary to meet the scientific challenges of the future.
3. All students in the program take part in a common curriculum creating a team spirit and facilitating exchange. Over thirty research groups participate in the program offering a wide variety of research themes. There are currently over 80 PhD students in the host labs and we predict approximately 15 new entries each year.

Postdoctoral Position in Bioinformatics and Comparative Genomics

Highlights:

1. A postdoctoral opening is immediately available in bioinformatics and comparative genomics at Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine. The main focus of the research is on studying proteins and DNA sequences involved in epigenetics.
2. Candidates are required to have an excellent understanding of genetics with strong bioinformatics research background. Excellent computer programming skills are also required. Prior experience in epigenetics is welcome but not strictly required.
3. Houston is an excellent working and living environment for individuals or families, and a competitive stipend package will be provided. Necessary visa application materials will be provided for foreign applicants.

Research Project on Biomarkers and Reconstruction of Paleoclimatic Conditions

Highlights:

1. The Biodiversity and Climate Research Centre (BiK-F) has recently been founded by the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung, the Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main, and additional partners.

2. It is funded by the Federal State of Hesse through its Initiative for the Development of Scientific and Economic Excellence (LOEWE). The mission of the Centre is to carry out internationally outstanding research on the interactions of biodiversity and climate change at the organism level.

3. The Project Area A "Evolution and Climate" invites applications for the position of a Postdoctoral Researcher “Biomarkers and Reconstruction of Paleoclimatic Conditions” BAT II a (approx. € 45.000 p.a.) Within the BiK-F Project groups A1 "Cenozoic diversification and climate change” and A3 “Biodiversity loss and climate dynamics in the Quaternary: the way into the icehouse“, analytical techniques such as gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and GC-combustion-isotopic ratio-MS (GC-C-IR-MS) will be applied to study the molecular structure and isotopic composition of biomarkers in sediments, peat and coal which are useful for the reconstruction of paleoenvironmental and paleoclimatic conditions.

4. The successful applicant must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry, Geology or other disciplines related to environmental sciences. Applicants should have experience with trace analytical methods, i.e. organic mass spectrometry. Additionally, good English language skills are required. The applicant is expected to participate in the development of a research proposal in order to obtain additional funding for the Research Centre. Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (BAT IIa).

5. The Research Centre BiK-F advocates gender equality. Women are therefore strongly encouraged to apply. Equally qualified severely handicapped applicants will be given preference.
