PhD in Design of bio-inspired nanopores at University of Groningen

Abstract: In a collaborative project, pH-sensitive, light-modulated and redox switches will be conjugated into pore forming peptides, peptide mimics and channel proteins to engineer selectivity and to allow controlled opening and closing of the pore. Lipids will be designed and synthesized that form robust membranes which are suitable hosts for the peptides and proteins. The PhD student will apply multiscale Molecular Dynamics simulations techniques to analyse the pore properties and help in the design of this promising class of bio-inspired nanopores.

Postdoctral in bioorganic hybrid materials

Highlights:

1. The Polymer Chemistry and Bioengineering group within the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, invites applications for several Postdoctoral and PhD Student Positions in the field of bioorganic hybrid materials for diagnostics and drug delivery.

2. Two 2-year postdoctoral positions and two PhD student positions are available from October 2009 to investigate the properties of DNA/synthetic polymer hybrid materials. These bioorganic structures that are fabricated by methods from organic and polymer chemistry as well as techniques from molecular biology are examined for several applications including (i) programmable polymeric membranes, (ii) diagnostic devices with high sensitivity and selectivity for biomolecule analytes, and (iii) drug delivery vehicles for small molecular weight drugs and biologicals like siRNA.

Organic Synthesis post doc position

Highlights:

1. Two Postdoctoral Positions: Organic Synthesis and Nanomaterials

2. The first one is on the synthesis and modification of biologically active compounds, in particular carbohydrates and peptides, and the development of highly efficient catalysts with low cytotoxicity for bioconjugation via click reactions.

Postdoc in Enzymology, Wayne State University
